Magic DVD Ripper can help you backup and rip DVD movies, which is very useful if you own a large collection of them. Backing up your discs lets you protect them from damage, while converting the movies to other formats is indispensable to watch them on various devices. The tool has a straightforward interface, in which two tabs take you directly to the main operations: copying and ripping.

As the source format, the application supports not only several types of discs but also DVD images and folders. Fortunately, it allows copying double-layer discs to 4.7Mb DVDs in three different ways. If you prefer to keep the original image quality, you can split the contents into two different discs. Another option is to save space by eliminating unwanted audio tracks, subtitles, titles, menus and trailers. In this regard, the tool can analyze the DVD structure and let you decide what to keep. On the other hand, if you would like to preserve the original structure, the program can automatically reduce quality so that the film fits into a single disc. Nevertheless, in case none of these options satisfies your needs, you can always copy the original contents to a similar DVD9 disc, but you should be aware that some incompatibility issues may arise when trying to play this disc type on certain players.

As to ripping a movie, the tool has several built-in presets configured for playback on specific devices, such as iPods, smartphones and computers. Moreover, you can customize your own presets or import them from external files. Just as when copying, the program gives you the possibility of selecting specific contents, such as titles, audio, subtitles, etc. Luckily, it supports ripping batches of DVDs.

In general, Magic DVD Ripper allows making highly customized copies of your DVDs. One limitation, though, is that it cannot actually burn discs. Instead, you need to create an image and use another software tool to burn it.
